ENSO – as you are?
this unusual circle, is to be drawn every morning, like a journal, to go along life following the hitsuzendō: the way of the brush
the Japanese way of spiritual evolution through a brush, ink and rice paper
the custom has it that, every morning, an artist, a calligrapher and a warrior wake up and start all the rituals to reach a perfect mind, able to draw a circle with only one movement, that cannot be changed “on the run”
you can’t stop
you can’t fix it
you can’t change it
neither retouch it
nor delete it and do it again
when you have the brush in your hands, either you’re ready or not
the circle you will draw will tell you
the circle speaks about you every day and tell you how you are:
with a thick and intense brushstroke
or thin and soft
trembling
firm
a closed or broken circle
round or stretched
smooth
frayed
were you focused? or not? were you ready? happy? angry? scared? worried?
were you….?
it doesn’t matter.
Enso teaches us that we’re always perfect
even when we are not perfect
that life is always perfect
even when it’s not perfect
Enso teaches us to grow, perfect or imperfect
stop looking for perfection of the universe or inside you
leave the universe as it is
enjoy it
and when you think you reached a certain step…Enso reminds you that you have to start again from that step and keep going, on and on
just like a circle, a never stopping loop, eternally cyclical
the union of the beginning and the end of an imperfect life
